Complete Fitness Boot Camp Starts September 25th!

Hey everyone! We have a four week Boot Camp starting September 25th at CageWorx gym 508 W.8th St. Port Angeles. There are three classes a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6am to 7am. Registration for the classes ends Friday September 22nd and we only have 7 spaces available and its first come first serve. Its $150.00 for all 12 classes, no membership fees, no hidden cost, just come in and get into shape! If you are interested in classes please stop in during business hours and ask about the boot camp and anything else that piques your interest.

CageWorx also offers one on one personal training, fitness kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and we have our very own yoga studio attached next door, Poser Yoga, which has a whole list of different yoga and fitness classes!

This boot camp is not like your traditional boot camp where you often do exercises without knowing why or how they are helping you, every movement is carefully picked by our specialists and there will be detailed instruction on each workout. If a person is limited by injuries or just stiffness caused by lack of exercise over the years there will be homework handouts given to help further advance your fitness goals. Our number one goal is safety, we won’t make you do an exercise because everyone else can do it, our trainers have a versatile set of tools to help guide and build you up to doing the proper movement. This boot camp is for everyone, but again space is limited so sign up now!

I am very excited to start training with everyone!

CageworX Muay Thai and BJJ Seminars at Legacy’s Grand Opening

CageworX’s sister gym in the Tri-Cities, Legacy Jiu Jitsu Academy, had their Grand Opening Weekend on January 13 & 14. To show our support, Cody Houston, Jenn Lozada and Josh McCool traveled to Richland, WA. Despite the unusually snowy weather, the weekend CageworX Muay Thai and BJJ Seminars were well attended.

On Friday night, Coach Jenn guest taught their women-only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, emphasizing concept-based jiu jitsu and guard retention. On Saturday, Coach Cody taught two seminars: a morning Muay Thai session focusing on simple yet very effective basics and an afternoon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class on bottom modified kesagatame techniques. Black belt Jay Bretz, who had driven from Leavenworth, also helped out during the BJJ session. Special thanks to Megan and Brendin Phillips for hosting us and throwing a great post-seminar party!

It was a pleasure to reconnect with familiar faces and to support Legacy Jiu Jitsu Academy’s future success. They’re a great group of people offering family-friendly martial arts instruction in both kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We highly recommend you visit them next time you’re in the Tri-Cities area!

CageworX 2016 Year in Review

CageworX’s 2016 was a big one. Probably the biggest change…babies. We got ’em! Cody & Jenny’s first child, Waylen, was born in February.

Babies at CageworX

CageworX Coaches & Staff

Coach Cody Houston continued to offer high level Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi and no gi instruction. Phil Beatty joined CageworX, offering his many years of experience to provide excellent kickboxing and fitness classes. Grant Gilliam’s arrival brought the addition of Monday night combat Sambo/Judo training. Jake Blaski began teaching the Thursday night no gi class and Jenn Lozada started a Women-only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class on Saturdays. Sara continued to provide administrative/front desk support.

CageworX Youth Classes

The youth kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs continued to grow. The kids BJJ competition team also saw a great deal of success in regional competitions.

CageworX Fight Team

Billy Cortani and Dexter Thumm, Jr. had very successful amateur kickboxing debuts. Darrell Hutchins joined the fight team and had his debut as a CageworX fighter. Josh McCool did well in his kickboxing and Muay Thai matches. Fighters Jake Blaski and Jacob Goudie finished their amateur careers with a flourish and began to fight professionally. Coach Cody Houston returned to the cage for the first time in over 13 years to win his amateur fight just after turning 40! CageworX also continued to do cage set ups and sanctioning for a number of fights in Washington.

Building Purchase & Poser Yoga+CageworX

Another huge change was the purchase of the entire building by Cody & Jenny Houston. Jenny’s yoga studio, Poser Yoga, was moved from their downtown location to right next door to CageworX. It was no small feat. Cody, Jenny, their family and friends (including members of the yoga studio and CageworX) made it happen!

Giving to the Community

During the holiday season, CageworX and Poser Yoga teamed up to give back to the community. We had a very successful peanut butter drive and, like last year, we adopted a local family for whom we collected needed gifts to help them start the new year right.

The CageworX/PoserYoga Peanut Butter drive allowed us to give much needed protein to the Port Angeles Food Bank

2016…and Beyond!

2016 was incredibly busy and productive. 2017 looks to be another year of tremendous change and growth as PoserYoga joins CageworX. (Literally cutting a doorway to join the two businesses.) Many thanks to everyone who’s part of the CageworX family!!!

Upcoming CageworX Fight Events and Seminars

There are a lot going through the end of the year and well into the next! Check out the schedule below for CageworX Fight  Events, opportunities to get your Washington State MMA Official certification and information on the next Revolution submission grappling tournament.

More details will be provided on each event as the dates get closer. Check back again soon!

CageworX Fight Team Rocked the Warehouse Wars

The CageworX fight team recently made a great showing at Warehouse Wars in Arlington last Saturday! Josh ‘El Matador’ McCool and Darrell L. Hutchins took to the ring for some exciting kickboxing bouts.

Darrell hasn’t been in a ring or cage for over four years and had a hard three-round match up. Although this kickboxing smoker didn’t decide winners or losers, Darrell was the obvious winner against a tough opponent.

El Matador felt out his opponent for a brief period and then put an end to it with a body kick that took his guy down at 1:01 of the first round.

Thanks to Landon Showalter for the opportunity, and for putting on a good old fashioned smoker event where guys and girls can get a more realistic fight show
