This is BIG NEWS for the evolution and continued growth of our 2-1/2-year-old gym… If you have been out of the loop lately and you
don’t know, then here ya go: Dave Holden, CageworX owner and the man that has made MMA in Port Angeles possible, is stepping down from the business. As of March 1st, I will be taking over ownership of the CageworX gym in order to keep it going.
Members of our CageworX Youth and Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teams are already looking forward to The 27th Revolution. This is the largest BJJ tournament in the Pacific Northwest. Registration online is now open and you get a free T-shirt if you register by February 16th! Choose to compete wearing a gi (in a uniform) or no-gi or both. Visit The Revolution website to learn more about the cost of registering, tournament rules, and FAQs. Registration closes on March 2nd.
Friday Feb. 27th is now the new date and CageworX is the place!! This will be our first seminar at the new gym location: 508 W. 8th Street in Port Angeles, WA. If you want to sharpen your skills with a world-class instructor, DO NOT miss this Marcelo Alonso seminar! My professor is a walking, grappling Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu encyclopedia. If you have trained with Professor Alonso before you know how amazing his knowledge is. If you haven’t had the chance to learn from him before then do NOT miss out on this opportunity! The cost is only $35 per person, a ridiculously low price for three hours with a BJJ master.
About Professor Marcelo Alonso
Professor Marcelo Alonso received his 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the late Grand Master Carlson Gracie. The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) promoted Professor Alonso to 5th degree black belt. Click here to learn more.
On January 10, 2015, the CageworX Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team participated in the very first ‘Chess on the Mat’ youth invitational BJJ tournament in Tacoma, WA. And let me tell you, our kids looked great, dominating the competition! We took four competitors: John (age 11) and Anna DeLacruz (age 6), Chase Cobb (age 11) and Thane Frandsen (age 8). Anna took second place in her division and Thane took first in his very first competition. Chase took first place in his very first competition and John also took first in his division. John gamely took a last-minute invitation to participate for a championship. For that, he won a GIANT title belt that is about as big as he is! Their families and the CageworX coaching staff couldn’t have been more proud of them! BIG congratulations to all the kids, thanks for the support given by their families and teammates in the CageworX Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Kids Classes. Special thanks to BJJ of Tacoma for creating a great opportunity for the kids to compete!

The CageworX Fight Team took to the cage in what was our last fight show of 2014. United Show of Force 3, hosted by the United Fitness Center in Kent WA took place on Dec. 21. The CageworX team members on the card were Garrett Buerner and Jake Blaski. After a long absence from the cage, Garrett Buerner had an MMA fight and demonstrated outstanding skill and technique. He finished his opponent, Sebatian Kirkland, in just over one minute of the very first round with a textbook guillotine choke. Next up on the card was Jake in his second kickboxing bout. Blaski showed a tremendous improvement in his stand-up game and proved what putting time into your training will do for you. He went a full three rounds with a very tough opponent and walked away with the ‘W’ via unanimous judges’ decision.

This is my first attempt at writing but I feel like all the knowledge and lessons that I have learned in over 20 years of martial arts experience can be used to help others.
What Is a “Bully”?
The term “Bully” by definition means, “A person who uses strength and power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.” In my short 38 years on this planet I have yet to meet an individual who has not met, been victim to, or has witnessed a bully in action. A
bully does not have to be someone who actually uses their fists to harm another. Bullies can use words, emotions, postures, power, authority or their fists to hurt another “weaker person.”
A Story of Severe Bullying
I, like most people I know, have been influenced and shaped by bullies. The person I am today, the way I live my life, and my career as a teacher, have been very much influenced by bullies, every day. I was raised in a very typical Northwestern/US town. Where I grew up Continue reading Bullies and the Martial Arts→
‘Tis the holiday season, folks, and that means it’s the time of year for GIVING. The CageworX MMA family is very much a part of the Port Angeles community. Being a part of any community means giving back to the community. For the 2014 holiday season, we had our very first Thanksgiving food drive. All through November, our gym members really stepped it up for the community and filled our Port Angeles Food Bank donation barrel to overflowing! Thanks to the team here at CageworX, we were able to collect over 200 lbs of non-perishable food items for families in need in our area. The food was all donated to the Port Angeles Food Bank and distributed to local families for the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday. Well done team!
Starting in September, we have a new ongoing special. Bring in a friend! Any member who brings in a friend that signs up for a 3-month or longer membership at CageworX will get HALF OFF their next month’s tuition!
